About This Chapter
"Obey," the narrator says, is a gift from god. He thinks about it a lot, but only one conclusion comes to mind: "flip funeral home drip" . He's not sure if she is a freshman or a sophomore, but he does know that she looks pretty. The narrator says that he saw her once in the math department, but that he doesn't know if she's really a freshman. He says that if he looks at her too much, she'll look at him too. No thanks, he says, and goes to the lecture. He wants to know what the point of the lecture is, when it seems like everyone at the university is trying to survive on the fittest possible. He asks if anyone has any concerns, and no one answers. He starts to get shy when he sees her, and says that she must be "honest with herself" to win his heart. He tells her to shake his hand and shake his head, and whisper in his ear that he should work hard to win her heart. She says, "shake my hand, shake my head." The narrator asks if she can let go of him now, and she whispers, "uh-can you let go
