This chapter opens with a flashback to the events of the previous chapter. In this chapter, we learn that Minas's son, Misawa, has been taken prisoner by the monster, and that the monster's father, Hyosuke, is now in charge of the village. Misawa's grandfather, who has been watching the battle from his hiding place, comes out of hiding to find his grandson dead. He is grateful to his grandson for giving him the strength to fight the monster. The grandfather is overcome with grief at his grandson's death, and he begs his grandson to turn and face the monster one last time.
