The narrator tells us that everyone has their own taste in perfumes, but the reason he's gloomy is the owner of his favorite scent. He's been obsessed with this scent since he was young, and he even managed to figure out his ideal scent. But the reason, he tells us, is that the scent owner is a man. He tells the chief engineer that he has something to ask him. The chief engineer has been grabbing his attention since his very first day at work, and the narrator is shocked to find that the man who carries his scent is actually a man! The narrator says that he thought that with his social skills, they'd quickly grow close, but things between them didn't work smoothly. Even though the narrator found his perfect scent, he can't change it. He resubmitted the document he sent him, and they're going to have lunch together. The narrator is worried that the relationship between the two men is getting more and more strained. He wants to know what he can do to make things better, but he doesn't know how to start a conversation with him. He goes to visit a perfume shop and finds out that the guy who carries the scent said he hated perfumes, and that he was shopping for them during work hours. He thinks that he caught him, but one thing's for sure, the guy ignored him again.
