About This Chapter
The chapter opens with a description of the battle between good and evil that took place a hundred years before. The narrator tells us that the battle was fought between "good and evil" and that "the great demon" , who was the leader of the group that attacked the mountain, died just like that. He says that after the battle, "jiang shu" no longer took part in the war, but went away with the remains of the warrior. He tells the story of how he heard that the "great demon" had placed the warrior's body in a cold place so that it would not rot, but that it has been a century since the battle. He adds that the rumor is that "jiang shuo" has been searching the world for a "primordial spirit" to resurrect his lover, but nothing has been found. He asks the narrator to fetch him a pot of "qiulubai," which is a medicinal water, and he says that he hopes that they can renew their love. He also tells the narrator that he still can't figure out why he treated the demon as a friend, and that he treated him as a "puppet" . He explains that they went through a "thick and thin together"
