In this short scene, we are introduced to a number of characters who have been introduced in previous scenes. The first of these characters is the Governess, who tells us that she is the only one in the world that she wants to tease. The Governess's only request is that she be allowed to see her lover's face. She wants to know why he is making such a fuss over her. She also wants to see his face, but she can't see it. She tries to get him to shake his head, but he's too afraid to do so. She asks him to focus on her, and he does.
