This scene is set in the kitchen of the apartment where the Governess is staying. The Governess tries to control her anger at the lecherous behavior of the servant. She tells him to give her a hand and to whisper where she thinks the servant is touching her. The servant responds by saying that he is giving her a "whack" and a "shake" and she is horrified. She tries to stop him and tells him that she will not yield to his advances and that the next day she will "absolutely not yield"
