The next morning, Orval and his men prepare for the arrival of the new ambassador, who is supposed to convince the slaves to free Elmire. When they arrive, however, they discover that the ambassador has already left, and that Elmire's health has taken a turn for the worse. The men prepare to enter the city, but they are interrupted by the sound of gunfire.
