When the scene opens, Desdemona is sitting at her desk, frowning. She's worried that something has happened to her husband, who seems to be getting along poorly with everyone around him lately. She asks him what's going on, and he tells her that he's disappointed that she's not happy with him. He tells her he'll buy her dinner, but she doesn't want to go to the company dinner that's supposed to be happening later that night. He asks her if she has time after work to talk to him, and she tells him that she has something important to discuss with him, but that she won't be able to attend the dinner since she'll be at work later that day. She tells him to peek out the window, and when he does, she asks him to give her a glass
