About This Chapter
In this short scene, the narrator is bored and asks his wife to raise something wrong with the sunbae, who is sitting at the head of the table. He wonders what the other men are talking about, and wonders aloud if he has ever seen the man before. The narrator tells us that the man is drunk, and that he is a member of the clan of the dog, which means "dog" in the Korean language. The man is jealous of his wife's good looks, and has spread rumors about the man's infidelity. He has even picked up a fight with the man at a party, and the narrator concludes that the reason the man keeps staring at his wife is because of his inferiority complex. He decides to go to the bathroom, but his wife wakes him up and tells him to go back to his room and sleep. He asks her what is going on, and she tells him that the atmosphere seems "a little different" . He tells her to ask the other man what he is talking about. She tells him not to worry, because she is good at noticing things that she can't understand. She asks him to take a test, and he agrees to do so.
