The chapter opens with the family in the middle of the night. The family is in a deep sleep, and everyone is trying to wake up the sleeping adults. The adults try to wake each other up, but no one is able to do so. The children are confused, and the adults are trying to figure out what's going on. When they finally wake up, they find that their parents have woken up, and they're all yelling at each other. They're not sure what to do, so they all go to bed. When the adults get up, the children try to talk to each other, but they can't figure out who's talking to whom. They start to argue, and one of the adults tries to calm them down by telling them that they'll all be better after they drink some wine. He tells them that he'll be able to give them a massage from the massage chair, which they've just bought. He's not sure why, but he's sure it's because the chair is so strong that it'll help them get up. He says that the chair seems to be broken, and that it looks like it might rip through the pants of his brother-in-law.
