About This Chapter
In this chapter, Shmoop explains that he loathes humans on an "intrinsic level" . He thinks that humans do not possess many of the things that demons do, and that humans are more like animals than they are like demons. He says that his mother is grateful to him, but that things are different now than they were when he first came to the village. He asks if she is okay with this, and she says that she is, but he does not know where he has come from, and he says that it makes him happy when he sees him smile. He tells her that he has been in the forest all by himself for centuries, and now that he can see her, it is hard for him to leave the forest. She tells him that they called him because they wanted to eliminate the demon before he ate her. She says that the demon ate the people who believed in him, and if this continues, she will be eaten. Shmo says that he will meet with the demon and hear his story. He wants to know if he is afraid of the demon, even if it means he is killed. He replies that he is interesting, and even if he does kill him, he will not kill him because he is both human and demon. He is glad to see her alive, and says that if they stay like this, they will heal faster.
