About This Chapter
In the morning, Kiyomori's eldest son, Tsune, and his nephew, Seizun, are at the temple, and Tsunemasa, who is in charge of the Tonoi, is worried about them. He asks the boy why he has been wandering around the temple all night, and the boy tells him that he has run out of food. He tells the boy that he is afraid of him, and that he will be going to the battlefield with him. Tsenemasa asks him what he should do, and he tells him to find the missing seizan. He says that his existence as a monk has begun to mean something to him, because he has devoted himself to the discipline of the monk's chastity. The boy says that he was nervous that he would strike the two men, but he does not want to part with their sound, as he is loath to do so. He also says that yoshinaka, from the east, has come to the temple to relinquish the heike to the Minamimoto clan. The monk says he will give his life to protect the boy.
