The chapter opens with Hiroyuki's response to the news that he has been bitten by a snake. Hiroyuki says that he is glad that his friend is safe. He tells Hiroyuki that he will be at work the next day. He asks Hiroyuki what he would have done if he had bitten his neck that day. The young man replies that he would not have done anything wrong. He adds that he does not care what other people think of him. He says that if only he had not given birth to her, all he would be sorry for is that she would have rejected him. She replies that she is sorry if she denies his weaknesses. She adds that if he denies who he is, then she will deny who she is. She says that she has been busy in the past month because of her mother's constant nagging. She concludes that her mother must have been able to keep her busy because she was oblivious to everything. She tells him that the first time they met, she told him that he was a hard worker. He replies that it was not a compliment, but a nonchalant comment. He also says that his mother must not have liked him as much as she did because of his personality.
