In this chapter, the narrator tells the story of how his mother woke up in the middle of the night. The corpse woke up, terrified, and fled to another house in the village. The next day, the villagers found the corpse of his neighbor, and the villagers began to lose their animals and children. People began to believe that they had been devoured by the old woman. Parents forbade their children to play outside, and primary school children had to wear a red tie to keep the evil spirits away. The military got involved and burned the old lady's corpse.
