"It's nothing," the narrator says of his pet gargoyle, "a heaping dose of smoochbery kisses." He's about to say goodbye to his "best fiend" when he realizes that he's going to have to "catch me first" . The narrator says that he can't imagine his life without his "pet gargoyle" , who's been "phineas bleak" for the past few months. "You bastard," he says, "you cannot escape fate." He promises to deliver "you from this world" to the "next world." The narrator realizes that death has "called my bluff" and made him reconsider his life choices. He realizes that his final thoughts will be, "Prepare for your deliverance / I always wondered about my final thoughts." He doesn't know where he is or what happened.
