About This Chapter
In this chapter, Gulliver tells his mother that he's learned a lot on his journey back to the tower. He's so proud of himself that he doesn't care what happens to her after he gets back the crown. He just wants to go home. He tells her that he thinks the thief likes her, and that he just wants the crown back so he can do whatever he wants with it. She tells him not to worry, because she knows what's going to happen to him if the thief betrays her. Gulliver tells her to trust him, and she tells him that she's tired of chasing the bad man. He says that he wants to celebrate his birthday, and he thanks the girls for hiding the flag. He wants to know where they're going, and they tell him that it's his birthday today. He asks them if they'd like to hide the flag, but they don't want to, so he asks them to hide it. They do, and Gulliver tells them that the flag is the national flag of the kingdom, which is beautiful. He explains that he spent his whole life dreaming about what the kingdom would be like, and now that it is beautiful, he can find out what it would look like if it weren't all that beautiful. The light is so bright, he says, that he wishes he had given the flag to the girls before, but he was afraid that he wouldn't be able to give it to them. He starts to float away, but then he realizes that he has to keep the crown for himself. He turns around and realizes that the girls want the crown instead, because they heard that Gulliver took the crown, and left them.
