About This Chapter
The scene opens with a description of the fire at the orphanage. It's hotter than usual, and the place is full of new kids. Haylen is worried that the vines have gotten him stuck, and he's going to have to find a way to get out of there. He says that if they destroy the sack man with someone inside, he'll be able to run away with the kids, and they'll never notice. He wants to know if they remember that he showed them the sack before they came to the orphanage, and if they've forgotten about it. He's got a plan: he wants to find Haylen and the children, and make them believe that they're safe. He also wants to inspire them, so that they don't get scared of being kidnapped. He tells them that they can't be too happy, and that they need to be more critical of their situation. He points out that they haven't been on the right path yet, and asks if they think he or the orphans aren't happy. They're happy, he says, and it's convenient for them to be so happy. He suggests that they should all be together, thinking of the good and evil forces that work together. When they find harmony, there's "a balance," he says. When evil and good find each other, there is a balance, and "life's energy" is generated. He asks if he thought it would be so easy to finish this mission, and she says that it would have been funny if he hadn't done it. She reminds him that he destroyed the bar, and now he has to clean it up. He reminds her that she told him to use lightning, but she doesn't believe him. She says
