About This Chapter
This chapter opens with a description of the librarian's "chief room" . It's the place where all of the "kings and librarians" of Alexandria work. The librarian is responsible for administering the kings and the librarians in the city. He's also responsible for the secrecy of the city's secrets. He tells the reader that he's fighting a "bagman" , a mythical creature that feeds on the fear of humans. The sackman is a kind of urban legend, but the librarian points out that the mythical creatures are not hard to understand. They're just like abandoned kids. The only way to defeat the sackman, the librarian says, is to work as a team with the other kids to defeat him. The other kids are too slow to help him, but it's his job to keep them on the same page. He asks if you're trying to take his sister "to the dark side" to get the bottles of alcohol without his permission. He also asks what's going on in his travels. He wants to create a "Thunder formation" to fight sackman. He says he'll call it "Thunder." The librarian reminds us that there's nothing alcohol in Alexandria. The bastard blames everyone for the mess, but he doesn't have any responsibility for it. He just wants to do something. The chapter ends with the librarian asking the reader to copy him.
