Osen, banished from the sky tree by his father, goes on a quest to find the key to the sky. He encounters the shadow elves, who have killed everyone in the forest. Osen explains that twenty years ago a human came to him and asked if he was a human. The evil energy in his body forced him to end the human's life. After being trapped for so long, he was too bored and so he drank it all. He gives iaso the ring of roots to use as a healing ring. The ring is even better than tears, because it can heal anyone. He asks if the ring can be used against the people who followed him that year. If they can use the ring, they might be able to disappear forever. He tells them that they are already dead and asks them to pass the letter to his father.
