About This Chapter
In this short scene, the narrator and his assistant, the art assistant, are on a field in the countryside. They are looking up at the stars, and the narrator tells his assistant that they are looking back at the past. He tells the assistant that he went to the cinema to see a movie by a famous actress, but that she had a bad experience with a "bad producer" and that her career was never recovered. He asks the assistant to throw away the paper that he is holding, and he asks the young assistant to buy some popcorn so that he can pop it. The young assistant says he doesn't think he can do it, but he promises to buy one bag of popcorn and throw away one bag. He says that he just wants to give the young actress a chance to shine, and that she will be the next "rising star" of the city. He hopes that the actress will forget about him and his family when she goes back to her hometown, and they will be able to find a new place to call home someday.
