Back in Ventimiglia, the doctor tells the group that the town has been "shot to pieces" and that the only thing left standing is the town's pumping station. He tells them that he and his men are looking for a "person from this town" , and that they will punish anyone who kills anyone. The doctor then asks the group to stop and eat lunch, and he tells them to look at the "damned lucky brats" . He also tells them about yoko, who has blocked all memories of her mother. He says that he wishes he could have been with her when she died, but that he was busy with his work at the time.
