About This Chapter
The narrator launches into a long speech about how the robots are everywhere, and how he's been working all day to keep up with their tasks. He compares the robots to "dirty scrub" who doesn't "handle dirt well" . The narrator then turns to the audience and asks them what they're up to today. He asks them if they'd like to have a bath, a massage, or a "massage" , and they all agree that they want to have one today. Then he asks them why they didn't wake him up in the morning, and he tells them that today is the 700th anniversary of the launch of the axiom. They're proud of how long they've been living the way they do, he says. He tells them to "flash" the robot's "exploratorybot" to see if it's found a plant. The robot says that it has, and the narrator says it looks like the robot has found some life on the ground. He then tells the audience that the robot must head back to the earth to find out what's in the ground, because it looks as if the robots have found some plants. He says that the robots should "install the plant" as instructed in the manual, and then they should "run the course" and "come back to earth." The narrator asks the audience what they should know about the land, sea, and salt water on the earth. The audience says that they'll find out when they meet up with the narrator.
