The chapter ends with a brief epilogue, in which the audience is told that Volger is not dead. He is, however, a machine. He feels like he has been sucked into a turbine, and he wonders what to do now that he has destroyed the gates. He tells the audience that he is going home, but that he cannot go back because he has forgotten who built the gates
