About This Chapter
In this chapter, we learn that the ghost of Dr. Manchu has returned to the city. He is now hiding out at the police station. He tells the officers in the precinct that he is ready to face his uncle. He also tells them that he has a plan to get the medical supplies back from the mob. He asks the officers if they know who killed Dr. Menchu. The officers tell him that they do know, but they do not want to reveal it to the mob because they are afraid of losing their street credibility. They also tell the officers that they need to have a room for the mob, since they know that the mob is trustworthy. They ask the detective bee if he knows what he is talking about. The detective replies that he does, and that he was with the army. The uncle tells him that he knows who killed the doctor, and the uncle tells the detective that he heard the doctor talking about a place in which he would keep his medical supplies. He says that he will come back tomorrow with a plan. He then asks the officer if he is in league with "the ghost daggers" . The officer replies that they are not in league, but that he would like to help the monk. The monk tells the officer that he and the other monks are ready to die for the sake of the elements. They say that they have been betrayed by the man who betrayed them. They claim that the man has accepted their preferences in China since before the communists came to power. They then tell the officer to mount a hospital on the lower east side of the city, where they will be able to stop the spirits.
