Summary

On the two-year anniversary of the death of his mother, Masaki Kuzumi returns to the beautiful manor home where she once lived. There, he meets the kind, devoted dog trainer Yuu Kanai and instantly responds to the younger man’s sweet nature... but something behind Yuu’s smile hints at a secret darkness that Kuzumi knows all too well. Can these two men band together and shine the light of forgiveness on all of their past regrets? Endless Comfort tells the story of two lost souls whose wounded hearts have kept them on the fringes of life and love for what seems like an eternity. Can the beautiful but sad heir to a fortune find a true friend in a member of the staff for his family estate... or will his ”alternative” lifestyle scare the innocent young man away for good?

The art was nice but I felt the story was trying too hard to be beautiful. Ultimately I felt like it had too much going on that didn’t matter and not enough of what did matter, and the emotional “umph” gets lost or lessened, the scenes not the best to tell the story, and not pulling me in deeply enough to care for all the characters except Yuu. For a more critical review: I didn’t feel deeply connected to the characters, and only really cared about Yuu but he felt more like a background character that suffers and gets saved and doesn’t really do anything at all. The Heir just seems to like him, and I root for it because why not? I want to see the poor guy get some relief from his suffering somehow, but was left sort of wondering if the relief that happened was at all realistic, which pulled me out of the story. His trauma was made to feel real, the “fix” felt too easy, idk. As for the side characters… they felt entirely unnecessary… like are they from a different story? They felt like there was so much more to them and yet they were just tacked on here. Like when characters make a guest appearance. Overall, the three of them seemed kind of pathetic, dating people you know are in love with another, loving a married person… like, I get it, but it just felt like they like to suffer by choosing to live this way and not speaking up, and that the three of them were trying to have their own story and Yuu was just tacked on as someone for the Heir to hook up with.
