About This Chapter
The chapter opens with a flashback to a conversation between the Governess and her mother. The Governess tells her mother that she is worried about her daughter's mental health and that she should seek medical attention. She also tells her that she wants to send her daughter to the mental hospital, where she can be cured of her illness. She tells her daughter that her uncle died when she was eleven years old and that he died when he was thirteen. She asks her mother if she would like to see the play she has written with the poems that she has read from the poe book. She says that she would love to hear her mother's opinion of the play. She then asks her father if he would like two tickets to the play to come with her. He says that he would, but that he has to go to the theater to see it. He asks her to tell him what she thinks about the play, and she tells him that her stomach is in knots. She wonders if she has been asked to speak to the prince of the school. The prince is the captain of the swimming team, and he is also the president of the class. He is a bit of a snob, she says, and should not be allowed to have a conversation with him. She goes on to say that the swim team has taken the day off so that they can practice for the next day's exam, and that they should leave her alone until they are sure that they have left. She is worried that the triple a rattlesnakes are scaring her, but she says that they are all barks and no bites. She wants to join her in the pool, but the captain wants to see her. She has a spare suit, a red swimsuit, and is practicing for the meet. She sees the captain
