In this chapter, we learn that the bear is a scaredy cat, and that his name is "Squaw." He is afraid of his mother, and he begs her to take him in. He is also afraid of the panda, who is not a spirit beast, and who does not have the mana to raise him. He asks the young panda to adopt him, but the panda does not want to do so, and so he tells the cat that he is looking for a "spirit beast" that he can "form a contract with." The young panda, however, is not willing to take the cat home with him, and the cat begs him to go back to his mother.
