The next morning, Mina wakes up to find that the statue of the Virgin is gone. She wonders if it was a dream, or if the statue itself is gone, too. Mina says that she was looking for the Virgin, but that she didn't eat the statue. The Virgin says that it's an ugly fake, and that she's been receiving the faith of the man through it. She says that the man looked like he was tired of everything, but she had the power to keep him alive, even though he was a human. The man's heart saved her, she says.
