In this chapter, we are introduced to a new character, the tomboy, who has just returned to the world of the fairy-tales. We are told that she is the heroine of the story, and that she has survived the first round of the "game of never-never land" . We learn that this is the first time that the heroine has been defeated in a combat-like situation. She is also the first female protagonist in the story to be killed by a wolf, and the first to be eaten by a wild beast. We also learn that the wolf has taken the heroine's cat, which is a reward for her survival in the previous game.
