In this chapter, Elec tells the story of a disease called "love-deficiency" . It occurs when a person is in love with someone who is not their lover. When the lover returns, the person's love for the other person also disappears. Or, the lover dies. Elec says that he wishes he could only touch the person he loves, but that it is not enough, and that he will die if he does not. He tells Elec to remember that he is as beautiful as his home.
