In this chapter, the Governess is trying to find a way to get the various parties involved in her scheme to win the lottery. She's worried about how she's going to get them to cooperate with her, since she doesn't have a lot of money, and they don't live in a very large house. The Governess tells her son that he's found the right person to help her out. He's the only one who has access to the studio, and he'll be able to use this person to his advantage. He also tells her that she'll have a better chance of winning the lottery if she and her son get married, since there's a rumor that they're going to do so.
