In this chapter, we are introduced to Subin's mother, who has returned home from a trip to the dentist's office. When she returns home, she finds that her daughter has returned from the dentist with a "fever" , which is a sign that she has a serious case of venereal disease. In order to treat her daughter's fever, Subin takes her to his bedroom, where he bathes her in his own urine. When he returns, however, he finds that she is still in bed, and he is unable to get her to open the door to her bedroom. He also discovers that her bedroom door is locked, and that she does not have the keys to the bedroom door. When the two women try to get into the bedroom, they are interrupted by the sound of a knock at the door. The sound is that of a woman's "screaming" for help, and the women realize that the woman is "masturbating" by herself.
