This chapter opens with a conversation between the artist and the monk. The monk asks the artist what he wants to do with him. The artist says that he does not want to do anything with the monk because he is in a dream. He asks the monk if he would like to do something with him, but the monk says he would never ask such a direct question. He says that the monk is slow to realize that he has been doing too much. He tells the artist that there is no class the next day so he can go out all night.
