About This Chapter
The scene opens with a flashback to the wedding of the two of them. It is the second half of the wedding, and the couple has returned to the king's palace in Vienna. The couple is overjoyed to be back together, but they are worried about the rumors that have been circulating about their marriage. They are worried that the rumors will spread and cause more trouble for the young couple. When the couple asks the queen if she would allow them to marry, the queen replies that she is the first lady of the kingdom and that she would be happy to make the couple her wife. She asks the couple if they would like to kiss, and they both agree that it would be okay if it were an engagement kiss, but that a kiss is not like this. The two then discuss the possibility of getting married, and when the queen asks if it is illegal for a married couple to get married, the couple says that it is not. They also discuss the fact that they will probably marry whoever their father chooses, since they have restored the kingdom's rule over the young woman. The young couple then head back to their room to prepare for the wedding. They decide to dress up in their wedding dress and dance a waltz. The bride is nervous about the dance, but the groom assures her that she will be able to dance with him. He even washes the wedding dress in a basin and puts it in a box for her to take with her on her wedding night.
