In this chapter, we learn that John is not in the best of moods. He's not sure what to do with himself, and he doesn't want to spend any more time in the lab. He wants to be alone. He tells us that it's his fault that he didn't pay enough attention to his research, and that maybe he needs to find a new job. John says that he's fine, but he'll need a lab three days later to test the new stuff. John tells him that this sounds like a good idea, but that it won't work. He also says that John wants to buy his notes on the Lazarus formula from a French scientist, which is not his own work, but just sells it off to a very high bidder. John asks if there's anything going on at all, and John says no.
