The next morning, the Thane wakes up to find that his wife is sleeping with another man. The Thane tells his wife that he's jealous of her because he thinks she's been keeping him awake thinking about him getting involved with another married man. He tells her that he moved to Kotland because he wanted to go back to the island tribes he grew up in. He heard that tribes were allowed to settle in the area, so he moved there to cover up for his homeland. He overheard that the man who married his oldest daughter, Tatiana, would inherit her father's estate if he died. He offers Tatiana an honest match if she'll keep him a secret.
