The narrator tells us that he's always envied the ordinary person. He says that since he met Lan, there've been no "shocking memory," no "left and death situations," and nobody has come between him and Lan. He wants to become a "normal person," one who can "grow old" . He's got a custom ring waiting for him, and he wants to know when he'll be able to collect it. He asks if the person drowning is okay, and the narrator says that's where the mermaid prince meets the princess. He tells Lan that he doesn't like the idea of Lan being the "lady of the island" , and that Lan should stop bugging him about it. Lan says that he belongs to the world because Lan is the one he loves, and Lan should let him go. The narrator asks if Lan is leaving as well, but Lan says no. He promises to wait for Lan's return, even if Lan leaves today.
