The next morning, Jane wakes up to find a knock at her door. It's from Professor Miller, who wants to know if Jeremiah is home. Jane tells him that she's worried about him, because Jeremy doesn't seem to have friends, and he's lonely. She asks him to write her a letter, so that she can find out what's going on with him. He's out of town, Jane says, and she worries that he'll be back soon. She tells him to go to her father's house, where she'll find out where he is.
