About This Chapter
The narrator tells us that he was surprised to learn that Henry and Tetamori are getting a divorce. He thinks that Tetaharu must have been the one who forged his name on a bank loan or something. He wonders if he's totally sure of that. He's also surprised because he was part of the "everyone" that got a divorce, and he thinks that's a good thing. The narrator says that he wants to know why they're getting divorced, but Tetamaru doesn't seem to know. He says that when he told him that he wanted to end the marriage, he said that he couldn't do anything about it, and that he'd be okay with it if he thought it was the right thing to do. He also says that since he said they should get married, it might have been a good time to get married too, too. He feels bad that they'll be strangers after he finishes tidying up their house and all their stuff this weekend. He wants to be alone, so he starts talking trash about Tetagari. He asks why she's listening to him, and she says that she'll just be listening to someone else. He tells her that he likes her, too, but that she shouldn't let him drive her home. He worries that they might get into an argument, but he'll have to go to a friend's house to have a drink.
