About This Chapter
The next day, the Governess tells tao-zi that she's learned a lot from the other girls in the school. She tells her that she doesn't care what people think of her because she'll do whatever she wants. The Governess is worried that she might be tempted by jealousy, but she reassures her friend that she won't worry about it. She says that she will be different from the rest of the girls in school, and that she is passionate about all sorts of school activities. She's also very kind to her students and teachers, and she'd be hard-pressed to recall a time when she did anything wrong. She also says that whatever activity she is in, she will always have a disturbance, whether it's with her classmates or teachers or with herself. So, she tells her friend, don't get too attached to her. Ooh, she says, her clothes have been splashed all over the place. It's a shame that she didn't have any clothes for the swimming lessons today, because she could have worn them for a while. But then she realizes that the clothes are under her clothes, which makes her feel a little better.
