The next morning, Dr. Manette wakes up to find a dead body lying on the ground. He's not sure if it's him or someone else, but he's sure it is the dead body of a woman. He wakes the woman up, washes her face, and gives her some food. He tells her to stand up and wait for the body to wake up. He doesn't know why there are so many tombs in the hospital, and he wonders why there aren't more graves in the countryside. He also wonders why no one bothered to dig up the graves when there were so many dead people there. The woman says she's glad to be in the company of the dead, and she'd like to sleep in a bed with him.
