About This Chapter
In this chapter, we learn that Perry's father once told him that even something as insignificant as a speck in the big scheme of things is just a "blip" in the larger picture. Perry thinks that his father's words have made it easier for him to live his life. He tells us that his dad used to tell him to "see Perry" and to be seen as nothing more than "a cosmic speck" . He says that if he thinks he's inconsequential, it makes his life easier. He also says that he used to think that he was nothing but a "cosmic speck" and that he should try to be more like Perry. He then tells us about his dad, who was a banker who sold "subprime" loans and took "bailout" money. He said that lonely men who bought "armours of weapons" to shoot up "daycares" were "lonely men" who took "outback money" and shouldn't be allowed to live their lives like that. He goes on to say that he shot his sister-in-law's husband and that annie still hasn't talked to him. He adds that they'll name Perry "seamus" in their honor and that they will even name him "perry" in his honor. The narrator says that this man is tortured to the "point of insanity" because he stole their "life savings" for a "fake investment." He says he usually wakes up at night and tells Perry what he has to do. He doesn't want Perry to tell his girlfriend, he says, so he went to "the docktown market" and told her that he needed her touch or a gun.
