The narrator tells us that he got dumped on the street by a guy who said he loved someone else. The narrator says that he didn't want to let that happen to him, so he went to the parade to forget about it. He says that the parade was fun, and that he's glad he stayed. He tells the narrator that he and the guy were good friends, and when he asked him to go out with him, the guy said yes without hesitating. They fought a lot, and the ride home was awkward. He adds that even though he knew the girl he was seeing was in love, he couldn't have given up hope on her, because if you love someone, you can't really do anything about it, even if you're in love with that person.
