About This Chapter
The narrator introduces us to a young girl named Airi homura, who has just arrived at a talent agency. Airi introduces herself as a " playful homura" , which means "little girl" in Japanese. She introduces herself to her sister, Aira, who is dressed in a mask. Aira asks her sister to take off her mask, but she refuses, saying that she is ugly and should be praised for her beauty. She tells her sister that her ugliness is a sin, and that she should be punished for it. The narrator tells her that she was in a coma after the fire, but that she survived thanks to the kindness of the homura family. The homuras managed to restore Airi's original face to her, and Aira's sister was saved from the flames. The Homuras were burned badly if they hadn't been wearing their masks, but they were spared if they stayed inside. As the narrator tells us, the beauty of Airi has never died, and she promises to protect her face even if it burns her.
