About This Chapter
In this chapter, we learn that Em'ly has accepted an offer from a rival club, and that he plans to leave Bayern Munich to pursue his dream of becoming a professional soccer player. He tells us that he's been at Bayern for five years now, and the only other players left in the squad are the guys who joined the team when he was just a teenager. He says that he tried to blend in with the rest of the players, but they all said he looked like a "bumpkin" , so he decided to stick with the team. Em says he loves the club, the staff, the players and the fans, but he can't stand the idea of leaving. He wants to "fight with you" at Bayern, but if he wants to put his "self in an environ stricter environment right away," he says, then he'll have to decide whether or not to leave the club. He's honest with himself, he says. If he leaves the club now, he thinks, it would be an act of betrayal. But if he stays, he believes, it will be because he has a "natur ally" in Bayern, and no one will "baby" him. He doesn't want to "give up" his position as a left-side back, and he won't give up his right-side position, either.
