About This Chapter
The next day, the art student tries to convince his father that he's not the same person as the guy who threw the rocks at the painting. He's just trying to do his best to prove that he isn't a bad person. He tells his father not to burn the rocks, because he just wants to complete his graduation project. The next morning, he goes to the studio early to finish the painting, and the studio is quieter than it's been in a while. The night of May 8 is the shooting day for the graduation, and he wants to make sure that his father doesn't kill him by saying something nice to him. He asks his father if he'll be able to sleep well tonight, and his father replies that he can sleep well if he just waits for the shooting the next day. The art student is convinced that the shooting was an accident, because the rocks were thrown from the window, and they can't figure out who threw them. He concludes that he still has plenty of time to paint the painting and get his diploma.
