About This Chapter
The narrator explains that her parents are fighting over custody, so she spends her time with them during mealtimes. Sometimes one of them has to wait for her to finish cooking, and sometimes the other one has to come pick her up. The narrator admits that she's already used to the situation, because she has seen the sides of her parents' cooking. Her mom's cooking is inedible, but her dad's "mushroom poem" has made her happy. She says she'll always be able to get her hands on "any advanced gadget over other people" because she was forced to "survive." The narrator tells the reader that her dad wouldn't "mistake" her as a kid, and that he would never "rub her head or pinch her face" since she was so young. She also says that she has to work very hard to be praised, and it is expected of her to do well in school. She tells the audience that she won't be going back to school before the entrance exams, but that she will be with her when she does.
