About This Chapter
The chapter opens with a flashback to the childhood of a little boy named Bo. Bo's parents are away on business, and Bo has missed his parents' signature on a homework assignment. The narrator explains that Bo is a "worry-free child" who is obedient and "even sensible" . He was already three years old when he was brought to his grandparents' house, and the family didn't really care about him at all. They just let him do whatever he wanted, and they even told him they could have another child if he wanted to. Bo asks his parents why they have to "put it like that" , and his parents explain that they don't love him because he's such a troublemaker. They also tell him to remember to take his medicine after his meal, because his father has a "short fuse" and needs to rest.
