About This Chapter
The narrator tells the girl that the two men next to her are in a bad mood and that she should go home now. The girl says that she likes to watch her friends feel awkward. She says that one of her friends is her beloved and the other is her childhood friend. She feels torn between them. The narrator asks the girl if she remembers the little wolf she and her friend picked up in the Amazon jungle when they were there. The little wolf was abandoned by the other wolves because they were too weak at the time, the girl says. She wonders if the wolf can hunt on its own now that it is surrounded by other wolves. She also wonders if she is ignored when there is a third wheel. She asks the boy if he would like to go along with them to see the wolf again. He says that he would, and she says that her smile always makes her feel better. She decides to elope with the prince and the girl.
