About This Chapter
This chapter opens with a crack in the rope, followed by a wobble. The rope breaks, and the two of them fall to the ground. The narrator tells us that he is from an Indian tribe, and this is something that is forbidden from him now. He says that his grandfather searched for him for years, and finally found him. If anything happened to him, he says, he would be as sad as his grandfather, but he would not want to break his grandfather's heart like that. He also says that he does not feel sorry for himself, because he is only an outsider in the family. His grandfather is smiling at him, and his hand is bleeding. He asks the narrator if he has ever been misunderstood, and she says that she has.
